Did I stand him up? Please Help?

A guy asked me to go get cofee with him. I dint even think it was a date- just casual hanging out.
I got so sick leading up to it and I had to leave (we\'re in the same afterschool program). I had no way of contacting him and dint see him so I told a friend to tell him.
I emailed him after a couple of hours.
He hasnt replied.
If he thought it was a date, did I just stand him up?
how do i make it up ta him?
if i dont even know it was a date or not?
